What
is TurnStile?
A community
needs space of its own - a private palce for its members. At the
same time any "club" needs to allow controlled access
for visitors, guests and potential customers. Some communities also
have layers of membership. TurnStile
satisfies these needs.

TurnStile protected
areas can be configured in numerous way to allow you to control
access to resources: *
- Visitors'
areas offer public access, but those entering have to be a member
of the community or register a name and e-mail address with the
community. This "Guest Book" registration is required only on
their first visit. The visitor is recognised on future visits
and a log of their visits stored.
- Members log
in only once (unless repeat log in is demanded) and will be recognised
on future visits. Visits are again recorded.
- Tiered members'
areas can be provided to allow different categories of visitor
to obtain access to separate sub-areas of the members' area. This
feature is useful to serve Council members, executive officers
or trade association industry sub-groups.
- Statistics
giving information of the activity of individual visitors can
be provided.
- A simple
tool, Pollster, can be configured to e-mail visitors after they
have made a certain number of visits inviting them to complete
a questionnaire about the communities web site.
The TurnStile
facilities are very easy for any community to use. Storing the relevant
resources as web pages or files in predefined directories on the
Main Highway server creates each configuration. These directories
are in turn linked to the server programs providing the above functionality.
How
do I get started with TurnStile?
Your first step
is to give us an idea of the information flows you use and how these
lead to the need for a private members area. We will then analyse
the configuration of areas and permissions that suits your needs
best. Implementing a TurnStile protected area is not a difficult
or time-consuming task. You will have to provide us with a list
of "members" that you wish to allow access to your private
areas so that we can enter them into a members's database. They
are then allocated user i/d's and passwords and provided with the
permissions that you allow them.
